A music producer wears many hats during the production process. He is often the liaison from the artist to the label – or even to the manager, if the manager isn’t “getting” your musical vision. So having a great producer on your team is vital.
John Alagia is one of the best in my book. He’s responsible for the recordings that launched John Mayer, Jason Mraz, Dave Matthews, and so many others. He believes in helping artists express their own vision, rather than imposing his own aesthetic, while always being mindful of the need for a commercial impact. We sat down for a chat at his studio in his room at LA’s iconic Village Recorder Studios, and he gave us a little peek behind the scenes to his creative process.
Also…he’s a really good guy…but you can hear that for yourself. 😉
