Judy Stakee was one of the first people I met in the music business when I moved to L.A. 15+ years ago. She was known for signing great talent (like Sheryl Crow, Jewel and Katy Perry) and going well beyond the typical role of “Publisher”. She took me clothes shopping for my first label meeting many moons ago and gave me my first publishing deal. It’s a bold move to write songs for a living – better know the game inside and out if you want to succeed. Judy has a great ear for songs and talent, and she offers up some great advice in this episode to anyone pursuing their passion as a songwriter.
It’s still fascinating to me that a song can be imagined up one day, get recorded and go on to have an impact on lives all around the world. That right there is the power of music and the joy of creating all coming together in one big blast. It’s worth every bit of struggle and all the not-knowing when your time comes.
